Quest of the Ring Leaders: Instructions

This instructional section provides specific information on the Quest of the Ring Leaders cyber-adventure so that your visit will be as educational and entertaining as possible.

The Premise

Quest of the Ring Leaders is an environmental education program set in an adventure game format. By completing the game, you will gain an understanding about current environmental problems as well as methods to decrease environmental degradation. In coordination with traditional classroom activities, students will learn how they can personally protect the environment.

The Game

Quest of the Ring Leaders is designed in a familiar adventure-based setting and an easy-to-use environment. The game interface contains several features you will need to use throughout the adventure. The main components are the control panel, directional compass, visual image, and text explaination.

The Control Panel

The control panel contains four buttons that can be clicked for more information.

By clicking on the "Instructions" button, you will return directly to this page for further review. When you have finished reading this page and you would like to return to location in the Quest where you left, click the "BACK" button on your Web browser's navigation bar at the top of the page.

If you click on the "Helpful Hint" button, Elcycer (your guide) will provide you with a clue to help you on your Quest of the Ring Leaders. Reading the clue will help you navigate through the adventure or the hint will help you answer the questions on the Challenge.

The "Challenge" button will take you to the end of the Quest. Elcycer will ask you several environmental questions about the world you visited. You must answer all of them to complete the Quest. Go to the challenge when you believe you have a good understanding off all the environmental problems that you saw while traveling through the world you visit.

It can be difficult to keep track of your location during the Quest. Clicking on the "Map" button will provide you with a locator map of the world you are visiting. You will see a red arrow on the map which designates your current location.

The Directional Compass

The directional compass is used to navigate through each world you visit on your Quest of the Ring Leaders.

The letters on the compass indicate directions: North (N), South (S), East (E), West (W), Northeast (NE), Southeast (SE), Northwest (NW), and Southwest (SW).

A yellow letter indicates a direction in which you can travel. Click on the letter to go there. In the example on the right, you could travel North, Northeast, South, and West, but you can NOT go any other direction. Use the compass in cooperation with the "Map" button to travel throughout each world you visit.

The Visual Image and Text Explaination

The visual image shows you what you are seeing at your current location in the Quest. By looking closely at the image, you will be learn about the environmental problems in the world. Pay attention to the details, because they will help you answer the questions in the Challenge.

The text explaination helps you understand what you are seeing in the image, and also provides details about some things that aren't shown. You will need to read the text carefully in order to answer the questions in the Challenge.

After travelling through each world and viewing the images and reading the text, you will be able to complete the Challenge and advance to the next level.
