| Closed-loop recycling: Recycling a used product into a new product of the same type. For example, recycling used six-pack rings into new six-pack rings.
The environmental "Three R's": Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
LDPE: Low Density Polyethylene: the type of plastic resin used to make six-pack rings. Products made from LDPE can be identified by the symbol:
Minimal package: A product package that uses the least possible amount of material to do its job, thereby reducing solid waste.
Non-toxic: Describes materials that do not contain poisonous chemicals.
Natural resources: Forms of wealth supplied by nature, such as coal, oil, water, wood, and land.
Photodegrade: To lose strength and break down when exposed to sunlight.
Ring carrier: Flexible six-pack rings made from LDPE , used to hold cans or bottles in a multi-pack. Six-pack rings today are minimal packages, photodegradable, non-toxic, and recyclable.
Ring Leader Recycling Program: An opportunity for schools, business and other groups to reduce solid waste and promote recycling by collecting and sending six-pack rings back to their manufacturer.
Solid waste: Waste that is not reused or recycled. Solid waste usually ends up in a landfill or incinerator. If recycled, it's not waste!
